![]() Getting to chat and thread with a bunch of kids who aren’t looking for a new site in a week for whatever reason finding friends who are willing to stick it out with you. I think that’s the plus of being an admin. I want her to be in the community of six where we’re all friendly, we all thread, we don’t mind about time zones and however long it takes to post in thread one, two, five, and that one over there we all seem to forget about for some reason. One person is brand spanking new to roleplaying and even though I was going to stick it out with the site anyway, I’m sticking it out even more for her because I want her to have fun and get to learn things so she can go on to other sites and have just as much fun as I did when I started roleplaying. Granted, now there are only six of us on my site, 20 characters between us all. ![]() What’s happened? Isn’t this meant to be fun? I’ve almost quit roleplaying because people in the community (or maybe it’s just my community and that’s the one I need to get out of) are just too unreliable to make anything fun out of roleplaying. It’s really tough being an admin and trying to make sure everyone’s involved, trying to plot and thread with everyone, trying to be civil about rude members, trying to alleviate issues that in hindsight weren’t even worth anything and were really just a waste of time, it’s hard watching people leave who you had plots with (realizing obviously the fun was one-sided and you’re pretty lame for it), it’s just hard and honestly I think this two and a bit months has taught me more about social life and the way people treat each other than what goes on around me every day. ![]() You get members who say they’re going to use a face in the c-box then they don’t reserve it and someone else comes along and has the same face in their application and there’s a problem because you’re an attentive admin who remembers this member wanted to use that face and this person knew that! So you try and do the damage control thing but that blows up in your face because then one person complains about another member edging in on everything and that was a waste of time wasn’t it because the person who ended up using the face claim didn’t do anything with it (so it could very well have gone to good use with the other person and maybe kept them around for a bit longer). But there’s really no such thing as being polite in roleplaying is there (or is there and I’m so out of luck?)? ![]() People take your wanted ads and things go smoothly for a week or two then without warning they drop the character and you know? Sometimes a little warning would be nice, just for the sake of politeness. You get members who send messages to other people that aren’t very nice and you wonder that maybe if you stepped in people wouldn’t have decided to quit (not that you ever know why someone wants to quit…it could be completely unrelated, but you never know). Then you get the members who decide they want canons changed otherwise they won’t join the site and you think “well I’d like to thread with more people and have new characters around so I’ll change up this canon just a bit and that’ll be fine even though I’m not 100% about it.” So you do things like that to accommodate members and then they go ignoring the most basic of canon descriptions anyway, then interfere with other plots between people and all of a sudden you’re dealing with drama that isn’t even worth it because everyone involved won’t participate in the next activity check and it’s just like “why did I even bother?” Those things began to drive me insane, and as an admin I did get slack with plotting with people but mostly only because it was obvious who wasn’t going to stick around (you do make it obvious folks!). Then there were those members who signed up and believed it was everyone else’s job to create plots with them (which it is most certainly not!) and then didn’t do anything when someone did plot with them. Most of the time it was ignored, and almost every other time people bailed on the small effort of communication threads that were made. I post in everyone’s shippers/plotters and try and make sure everyone’s involved. I’ve been the admin of a site for just under three months now and it’s the longest I’ve been an admin and jfc, it’s the hardest thing to do sometimes! You go through periods where everyone’s like “hell yeah I’m going to join and post and be amazing” and then a week later it’s all “I’m going to find somewhere else now, bye.” I (don’t) get that, but there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m not sure if this is something you guys want on your blog, but I had some things to vent and it’s around the rp community so maybe it’s okay? feel free to delete if not!
